When drivers think Mercedes-Benz, most can probably agree the marque is synonymous with elegance, refinement and class – with a certain attitude. The E-Class and C-Class models, and certainly the SLK roadster and crossover GLC are ones that portray just the right amount of attitude.

Since 1993, the E-Class has been aimed at the executive mid-size luxury market and the C-Class was its compact sibling positioned for younger up-and-comers. The cars have been described as "benchmarks for ride quality, craftsmanship and clever innovation." No argument there either. The E-Class includes coupe, sedan, station wagon and special-purpose applications (police or ambulance modifications) and is often used as a taxi in Asia. The C-Class, although described as Mercedes' entry-level car, is on par with the E, offered in an array of trims and power options, including an AMG development package.

The E-Class got a facelift in 2013 and comprehensive redesign in 2016. The C-Class got a facelift for 2012 and in 2014, the current-generation car was introduced, showcasing Mercedes' 200-lb. lighter modular rear architecture (MRA) aluminum platform. For 2016 the SLK got a new 241-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0L, four-cylinder engine to replace the SLK250 and its 201-hp 1.8L. The GLC was completely redesigned, upsized a bit and re-powered with the same turbocharged four-cylinder found in the C300. A four-cylinder diesel engine is expected later in the year, plus a 320-horsepower hybrid and an AMG performance version.
